An Update From the Penners

Sep 11, 2014

Here’s a little update of what’s happening with Kevin & Laurel Penner and the family...

Translation Work - Yesterday the translation team finished chapter 11 in their draft of Romans. It will be great when this book is ready and Mixtecs ca...n read verses like Romans 8:1 in their own language: “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”!

PhD studies - I finished the latest round of edits on my last candidacy project and sent it to my supervisor on Saturday. It was nice to spend the weekend not feeling like I had to work on a paper! We are praying that God will work it out for me to do my candidacy exam in September so that I’m free to go to Mexico in October. In order for this to happen, my supervisor will have to approve the paper in time for it to be sent to all the committee members two weeks before the exam, and the exam date will have to fit into the schedule of the five members of the committee.

On the home front - We had a spectacular few days in the mountains in Kananaskis, AB camping, hiking and backpacking as a family. The kids just started their second week of school. Gabby has had a volleyball tournament already and Kyle had a football mini preseason tournament. Laurel has a part time job at Prairie Bible College working with the institutional database. We are grateful for the provision of this job that she can do around her Wycliffe work and home responsibilities.

Praise Items:
• Edits done on my paper
• Great family backpacking trip in August
• Steady work for Kyle this summer
• Part time job for Laurel

Prayer Items:
• Kevin's candidacy exam
• Financial partners for our ministry
• Finances for Kevin's fall Mexico trip
• The Internet in the village is still very poor (but somewhat functional)
• Kyle stepped on a nail this summer and it's causing him a lot of pain when he walks

Grace and peace,
